Are You a Maladaptive Daydreamer? Here’s How to Quit Part II

I listed a number of ways to quit maladaptive daydreaming in a previous article (and video — see bottom of page). If you don’t know if you’re a maladaptive daydreamer, I suggest checking out that video below — and, or reading the first article I posted here.

Before I begin I want to acknowledge some of the anxieties around maladaptive daydreaming. When you’re in pain, it makes sense to turn to something that provides you with comfort. Some people binge-watch TV. Other people are incredibly creative, and they create stories in their heads, and yes, those stories may go on for longer than they want. And yes, those stories may be intrusive, but there’s something rather lovely in being able to create narratives like that. And even though it can be frustrating, do try to be kind to yourself, and recognize that you’re doing the best you can. It’s okay not to be perfect. You’re enough just as you are.

That said, since this article is about quitting, let’s talk about what you can do to ease the burden of excessive daydreaming.
