Here’s How to Stop Getting Stuck in the Middle of Self-Help Books

Some books are easier to barrel through than others.

Give me a novel while I have the flu, and that book will be done within four days. Give me a self-help or nonfiction health book, and my perfectionism might kick in, and I might still be reading that book four years later.

If you’re like me and continually read multiple books at once, you might find your bookshelf full of books with bookmarks in the middle. Instead of feeling haunted or daunted every time you glance at your bookshelf full of half-finished guilt trips, keep reading to figure out how to keep those bookmarks moving.

If you’re not getting through a self-help book, is that book helping you or just hurting your self-esteem? Different books hold more value for us in different seasons. Reflect on whether that book is beneficial or just not resonating. Not all books have to be finished. One way of finishing a book is by not finishing it and passing it along to a friend, a neighborhood library box, or a used bookstore. Out of bookshelf, out of mind. If you do still intend to finish the self-help book, then here are three ways to get around that wily self to do just that:
